the rose rose

Her fingers delicate
Pulls the covers over her child’s head
Her voice ethereal
She waters the child with song
Word by word, syllable by syllable
Drips and seeps on the child

The morning comes
Bright light awakes the child
He pokes his limbs out from the covers
Lifts himself from the pillows
Strong and tall; bold and beautiful

Personality and character
Unfold with each velvety petal
Sunrise to sunset
The child flourishes
Under the care of his mother above
She watches and smiles
For her rose rose and is a rose
